“I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a Stylist”.
After High School, I worked for a year to save up enough money to pay for Cosmetology School. I attended school and upon Graduation in 1985 landed a dream job working under a Paul Mitchell Platform Artist, which is where my true education got underway. I worked side by side as an assistant, absorbing all the information I could and asking question after question. I also attended weekly cutting classes to hone my skills. Upon completing the required time as his assistant I then moved up to Stylist and really began my career.
Over the years I specialized in different areas of the industry, cutting, up styles, re-texturizing and coloring. In my 23 yrs as a Stylist, I have worked in several different privately owned Salons where the atmosphere is always friendly and the focus is on continuing education and shows. As with any career, the more people you work with the more you learn. I have been lucky enough to work with some great talents in this industry and with every experience I walked away with greater knowledge and sharper skills.
After working for others for years, I then decided it was time to become my own boss and worked as an independent contractor, I then realized that it was time for me to open my own Salon and opened Freestyle Salon, my first day was on 9-11-2001.
In June of 2003 I joined the JOICO educational team and traveled to CT, NY and LA for advanced training, and to begin a new segment of my career in education.
Continuing education is vital to growth in this industry; I love to attend classes and shows whenever possible.
